The Finale:My Last Blog for the First Semester of ELA 2

Semester one of the tenth grade was interesting, fun, and difficult. I thought I would struggle socialising but I made a lot of good friends—most coming from this class. I thought this class would be difficult especially after hearing that we needed to write a story and read it in front of everybody.

I expected this semester to start really rocky but I knew that I would end up loving language arts because I have loved this subject for the past few years, but when I walked into the room, I wondered why there aren’t many books in the class I was in, turns out I walked into the wrong classroom. So, I picked up my things and went to the right classroom, and it was different. We had to solve this puzzle and that made my brain hurt because we still all had vacation in our minds. The class went by and I thought to myself,

“Wow, this class is taking a long time.”

I didn’t know about block schedule but luckily, Jasmine explained it to me and after that, I started my journey to my chemistry class.

This class is fun, my teacher always found a way to incorporate games and interesting stories into our lessons—which I don’t mind at all. We had to play this yarn game and let me tell you, that was frustrating. I wanted to just go to the middle of the circle and make sure that the strings were held taut. There was also a time where we had to go outside to take a class selfie and one of the most fun occurrences was the Thanksgiving potluck, we played uno, ate a lot, made TikToks, and ate some more.

Through all the fun that we have in this class, we also have to take things seriously and sometimes it wasn’t easy. Hearing about the story writing made me worried as I am not the most creative and expressive person when it comes to writing. The writing project was I think our biggest assignment/project. It stresses me out a lot because we had to complete each draft and the windows for each due date wasn’t big enough. Creating a title was the most difficult but at least I was capable of thinking of one. After all that, I ended up having an amazing grade; it was worth it.

Friends:My Source of Happiness

Spending time with my friends was always a source of happiness for me. I recall having this bread party with my friends Rachel,Hannah, Kimi, and Elaine. We made bread and ate it too. We played games and watched a scary movie. I think I can be that happy again and maybe even happier next time because we are getting closer as time passes by. People aren’t able the happiness they feel but they are able to control the amount of happiness they share.

Characterization: What Did I Learn?

Characterization is a topic that we’ve been tackling for quite some time in language arts and today we had a quiz on it. A lot of people said that it was easy but it was difficult to think of words.

Vocabulary is very important when it comes to characterization. As our grade level goes higher, we need to use a larger variety of words. As I was taking ym quiz, there was one segment and there was only one word I could think of that could describe the character, LAZY. I could not think of another word except for unmotivated. right after I took the quiz I searched up its synonyms and there were many. I saw unmotivated and I felt disappointed, how and why did I not put that in? It sounded like a much more intelligent word compared to lazy.

My Identity:Something I Deal With Daily

I sometimes don’t express confidence with my identity because I am a minority and I have gotten bullied because of my race which makes it worse. I sometimes say things like, “Oh, I should do this because it makes my eyes bigger.” Me saying that is not related to my appearance but what I identify as race-wise. Now that I transferred to another school,  I feel more comfortable because there are more people that I can relate to. I have always accepted who I am, I just didn’t have confidence.

ELA for Four Years:What Are The Benefits?

ELA is a four year requirement in high school. Some might wonder why we’re taking it for that long when a lot of people in the world already speak this language.

Just like everything, the English language has rules; rules that are necessary to make communication clear. The usage of slang has been affecting our speaking abilities and with English classes, we are able to regain our knowledge on speaking properly.

We all need a job to survive in life, and you can’t get a job unless you fulfill your requirements in high school.

Language Arts: How I use it in Everyday Life

ELA is a class where standards in writing are taught. I think the standards can be seen as “rules” that guide you through writing. The expectations are challenging and pushes the reader to continuously try their best.

The amount of work is okay, but because we have quite a large project assigned to us these last few weeks, I think it would be great if given more time, especially because of the strict rubric.

Everyday, students always learn something new and something that cN benefit them. Most of the skills learned in ELA can be used everyday and also in the future, especially in college. Skills like essay writing are not only used in this class but also in classes like history. Research is also something that is taught and used throughout high school and college.

ELA is the only class that I have encountered that doesn’t focus on one thing. It teaches you so many skills and standards that can be used anytime and anywhere.
